Asparagus Fern Is NOT a Fern
On the Reddit sub r/ferns there are many requests to help with the care of an asparagus fern.
The indoor card of asparagus fern is similar to many plants, proper light, proper water, proper size pot. Link to care instructions.
Asparagus fern may have the feathery leaf look of a fern. The leaves are a bit too feathery for a fern. IT IS NOT A FERN! (I'm done shouting)
The common name may refer to more than one species. The family name is Asparagaceae. The genus is usually Asparagus. Scientific names can be A. densiflorus, A. setaceus, and others. Yes, the same genus as the vegetable, A. officinalis.
A well cared for asparagus fern will flower. Ferns do not have flowers. That's what make ferns different. No flowers, only spores. Flowering plants don't have spores, only flowers and seeds. Ferns came before flowering plants. Flowering plants out competed ferns, thus diminishing the size and number of ferns.
Remember, asparagus fern is not a fern.
