Smith's Tree Fern

Published: 2024-09-01

This is Smith's Tree fern, or Cyathea smithii.

All tree ferns have the characteristic of growing a new layer of fronds on top of the previous layer. The older layer then dying off. This growth pattern causes the fern to grow taller and taller. This is the same pattern of a palm tree.

The Smith's Tree fern has the trait that several layers of older fronds dry up but do not fall off right away.
