Crested Wood Fern

Crested Wood Fern, Dryopteris cristata, is found in many places in the Eastern United States and along the Great Lakes. Isolated populations exist in the Pacific NW and Europe.

D. cristata is a 'true fern'. It is a 'wood' fern, with scales on the stipe and rachis. It is bipinnate-pinnatifid. The sori can be found on the underside of the frond. Thus it is a homomorphous fern.

The pinna of the frond are triangular, dark green, and slightly rotated. It grows in clumps.
